Today most scientists agree that gut health and restoring the integrity of the gut barrier will be one of the most important goals of medicine in the 21st century.
It is critical to overall health - as an unhealthy gut is linked to autoimmune diseases like diabetes, Crohn's, fibromyalgia, candidiasis, rheumatoid arthritis, obesity, mental illness, anxiety, depression, and so many more...
As result of overuse of antibiotics, NSAIDs, steroids, and births control pills; diets high in processed foods, refined sugars, and refined carbs; toxins in foods, and chronic stress, our gut health has been compromised. It is also important to note, that everyone with a compromised gut barrier or lacking a diverse microbiome is not symptomatic, YET.
Of particular concern are antibiotics. Current research suggests that the diversity of our gut microbiome DOES NOT recover without intervention... The biggest healing phases in my personal health journey with Lyme Disease and Multiple Sclerosis (MS) occurred only after focusing for months and months on gut healing and gut/immune support. Now, when I feel a relapse or flare beginning, that is the FIRST thing I turn to...the state of my gut health.
