Surrender + Release

To surrender means that as you move through life, you change

the things you can and don't worry about the things you can't.

{don Miguel Ruiz, Jr.}

What a blessing to know the difference between the things you can change and the ones you cannot. When you try to control life, you operate from the illusion that if you only try hard enough you can fix everything. But that type of thinking only creates stress and drama and a feeling that you are not doing it “right.” It destroys your self-image, because you fall short of your expectations, and ability to correctly discern the results of your work. This is something I struggle with, often on a daily basis, but there is a better path that does not lead to self-destruction. When you befriend surrender, you learn to discern what you can change and then take action. Those things that you cannot change, you must gently offer up into the hands of a Larger Force and then let go. There is where peace lies.

Two of my favorite essential oils in recent weeks have been two, lovely blends, from Young Living, called Release and Surrender. Why is it important to release negative emotions and memories? When you're hurt by someone you love and trust, you might become angry, sad or confused. If you dwell on hurtful events or situations, grudges filled with resentment, vengeance and hostility can take root. If you allow negative feelings to crowd out positive feelings, you might find yourself swallowed up by your own bitterness or sense of injustice.

Anger triggers the body’s ‘fight or flight’ response. Other emotions that trigger this response include fear, excitement and anxiety. The adrenal glands flood the body with stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. The brain shunts blood away from the gut and towards the muscles, in preparation for physical exertion. Heart rate, blood pressure and respiration increase, the body temperature rises and the skin perspires. The constant flood of stress chemicals and associated metabolic changes that go with recurrent unmanaged anger can eventually cause harm to many different systems of the body.

Negative energy goes into the blood, and then into the liver for cleansing, and here the toxins can remain trapped. As a result, the liver often becomes a storage place for anger, resentment, bitterness, hatred, jealousy, envy, addictions and a host of destructive feelings.

Release Essential Oil Blend

One of my favorite and most used emotional support oils would be Release. Release helps to enhance the release of memory trauma from the cells of the liver, where anger and hate emotions are stored. It may also assist in letting go of negative emotions.

The Oils in Release:

  • Ylang Ylang: balances energy, relaxing.

  • Geranium: supports hormone balance and release negative memories.

  • Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood: high in sesquiterpene compounds that stimulates the limbic system which is the center of memory and emotions.

  • Blue Tansy: supports emotional balance by combatting negative emotions.

  • Rose: encourages feelings of positive self-reflection.

  • Jasmine: relaxes, soothes, uplifts, and enhances self-confidence.

  • Ocotea: calming, relaxing.

  • Lime: promotes mental clarity and encourages creativity.

  • Davana: calming, eases nervous tension, uplifting.

  • Grapefruit: energizing and uplifting.

  • Tangerine: eases anxious feelings, promotes mental clarity and alertness, uplifting, promotes feelings of happiness.

  • Spearmint: promotes emotional balance, relaxing, uplifts the mind.

  • Blue Cypress: supports the body's natural response to irritation, calming.

  • Lemon: refreshing, energizing, uplifting.

  • Lavender: can help you relax, wind down before bed and even ease stress. Its balancing properties bring harmony to a room and atmosphere when diffused.

  • Chamomile: clears the mind, promotes patience and peace.

How to Use:

- Apply one drop of Release over the front and back of the liver in a circular motion. Your liver is located above your stomach and sits slightly to the right side of your body.

- Add 10-15 drops to a hot, epsom salt bath and soak until the water cools.

- Apply to back of neck, temples, and wrists, or add to diffuser jewelry to wear all day.

- You may also diffuse this blend for added benefits.

Affirmation Suggestions:

I love and approve of myself.

I am free.

Surrender Essential Oil Blend

Hard-headed. Stubborn. MY WAY. This, obviously, could never describe you. You are understanding, forgiving, and generous at all times. But, just in case you happen to slip up on occasion, or find yourself hanging onto something you KNOW you need to let go of; let me just tell you a little bit about my friend, Surrender. I call this one my Elsa-Oil.

Surrender is a calming and soothing blend useful for dominant personalities who may become unfocused or feel the need to be controlling. It helps quiet troubled hearts so that negative emotions can be released. It encourages surrender of aggression, negative emotion, and emotional blocks. Also promotes feelings of equilibrium and inner strength.

Many times when we tend to be overbearing and committed to our ways we become one sided and cannot see what is in front of us; even if it is an opportunity or a solution to our problem. Surrender oil will help us relax and clear the mind so we can be more open minded and see our way through. It provides aromas to help cast off inhibitions that may be controlling your life or limiting your potential. This comforting blend was created to help balance and calm the emotions and clear the mind; and release controlling and/or unfocused behaviors.

All of us often have challenging times in our life where it is hard to keep focused on what we need to do to move forward and take action. Whether it is an emotional issue or a life challenge, surrender essential oil can help us surrender to what we can't control and develop a fresh outlook. Surrender essential oil also helps us release stress so we can become emotionally balanced. Surrender, like Motivation oil blend, can help us release resistance to change and the fear of moving forward.

What a potent oil… I find that I am happiest and most serene when I SURRENDER my wants and let the Universe take care of me. And, the description makes me smile, because I definitely have a “need to be controlling” sometimes. How about you? If you find yourself worked up or holding on too tight, I would recommend diffusing or apply to your feet daily until peace and balance returns. If you need a little help “letting it go,” Surrender is your oil.
